The Adrian Area Chamber of Commerce will honor Mark and Mary Murray as they receive the Addison J. Comstock Award on Tuesday, January 29, 2019.
The Comstock Award is designed to recognize individuals or organizations who are tenacious in their promotion, development of the city, its economy and business growth. It is sponsored by Citizen’s Gas Fuel Company.
As a couple, the Murrays are devoted community servants, providing volunteer and leadership to Launch Lenawee, the Adrian Rotary Club, Lenawee Cares, and Michener Elementary Fluency Friends. They received the Lenawee Leadership Award and recognition by the Lenawee Community Foundation during National Volunteer Week in 2018. They were also former recipients of the Stubnitz Award from Lenawee United Way, now Lenawee Cares.
Both are very active in the Rotary Club. Mary chairs the Rotary Fluency Friends program, was former President of the Adrian Noon Rotary Club and was named Rotarian of the Year in 2014. She is also a past Athena Award recipient. Mark chairs the Adrian Rotary Foundation and the Rotary Annual Community River Cleanup project. He also chairs the Town and Gown Committee.
Their vision for a better community included the purchase and renovation of the former National Guard building in downtown Adrian. The Adrian Armory Community Center is dedicated to the growth and development of Lenawee County, and has quickly become a favorite location for local business events, community gatherings, and wedding receptions.
Mark and Mary Murray were also instrumental in founding Launch Lenawee. They toured numerous entrepreneurial centers throughout the country before starting the program locally in the fall of 2018. Launch Lenawee is designed to support and develop entrepreneurs and small businesses in Lenawee County, Michigan by providing access to business development services, mentorship, business loans, and networking opportunities. This project includes collaboration efforts with the Adrian Chamber and other local organizations throughout the county.
Other recognitions to be honored at the luncheon meeting include the Commitment to Excellence Award and Beautification Awards.
The Commitment to Excellence Award is sponsored by Siena Heights University and is designed to recognize a local business person who demonstrates strong ethics, community engagement, environmental stewardship, and is service-oriented.
