Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Michigan to host community event celebrating new retail store; Proceeds from Goodwill’s stores support job training and services for local residents facing barriers.
ADRIAN, MI, May 25, 2017— Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Michigan (Goodwill) will host a grand opening weekend to celebrate the official opening of its new store located at 1400 US 223. The new store will feature over 30,000 pieces of merchandise which have not been for sale previously at any Goodwill store. Merchandise will be replenished throughout each day. The revenue from the new store, and all of Goodwill’s stores, is used to fund the services that are core to the non-profit organization’s mission.
Goodwill will continue to maintain its Headquarters operations in its existing Division Street location. These operations include: its Workforce Development and Learning Independence, Navigating Choices (LINC) which provide services for local residents facing barriers; its contracts group, which includes confidential shredding; and serve as its processing, warehousing and distribution center.
“Our mission at Goodwill is to help people with disabilities and other barriers maximize their potential and gain confidence while developing their abilities to improve the quality of their lives,” said Keith Trost, Executive Director at Goodwill. “We do this by providing job training and workforce development services, as well as our LINC, program where participants learn social and daily living skills by actively participating in their communities with peers and support staff.”
To kick off the “Race in for Savings” grand opening weekend festivities, the Adrian Area Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon cutting for the new retail store at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, June 16. Following the ribbon cutting, the weekend-long community celebration will commence featuring special activities, prize drawings, giveaways and more. Goodwill’s Facebook page will be updated with a detailed itinerary of each day of the celebration.
